Kanika policies

Professional Conduct Policy

Effective 29 October 2026. Last reviewed 28 October 2026.
Kanika is held by facilitators, not saviours. Every person who works in this lineage holds their power cleanly, honours the sovereignty of the person in front of them, and acts with integrity whether or not anyone is watching.

Who this applies to

This policy applies to Corrie as Founder, every Kanika practitioner listed in our directory, every trainee practitioner, and anyone who works for or represents Kanika. It forms part of the practitioner membership and training agreements.

Your rights as a client

We uphold the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights. When you work with anyone in Kanika, you have the right to:

  1. be treated with respect, including for your culture, values and beliefs
  2. freedom from discrimination, coercion, harassment, and sexual, financial or other exploitation
  3. dignity and independence
  4. services of an appropriate standard, delivered with care and skill
  5. effective communication, in a way you understand
  6. be fully informed about what the work involves, its benefits, its limits and the cost
  7. make an informed choice and give informed consent, and to withdraw it at any time
  8. have a support person present
  9. these rights when you take part in training, teaching or research
  10. complain, and have your complaint taken seriously

Working within scope

Kanika practitioners do not diagnose medical or psychiatric conditions, prescribe, or advise anyone to stop or change medication or medical treatment. Where something sits outside the scope of Kanika, we refer you to an appropriate health professional. Practitioners who hold other qualifications may only offer those services where they are trained and, where required, registered to do so.

Honesty in how we speak

We describe Kanika truthfully and never make claims we cannot support, in line with the Fair Trading Act 1986. Kanika does not yet offer certification, so our practitioners are called practitioners, never certified practitioners. Client stories and testimonials are only shared with written consent and are never altered or invented.

Consent and touch

Every element of a session is explained before it begins. Bone contact and any touch happen only with your clear consent, which can be withdrawn at any moment. Intimate areas are never touched. A practitioner never pressures a client to continue, to share more than they wish, or to book further work.

Boundaries

  • No sexual or romantic relationship with a current client or trainee, ever, and not for at least two years after the professional relationship ends.
  • No financial, business or personal arrangement that could exploit a client or cloud professional judgement.
  • Gifts beyond a token of thanks are declined.
  • Practitioners never work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Support between sessions follows clear, agreed hours and channels.

Sovereignty, not dependency

Kanika exists to return people to their own authority. Practitioners do not position themselves as the source of a client's healing, encourage reliance on them, or use a client's projection or devotion for personal gain. When a client is ready to move on, we celebrate it.

Confidentiality

Everything shared in a session is confidential, in line with our Privacy and Data Protection Policy. Client details are never discussed outside supervision or case study support, and only once every identifying detail has been removed. The only exceptions are where you consent, where the law requires it, or where there is a serious threat to someone's life or health.

Cultural safety

We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and respect tikanga Māori, rongoā and the cultural and spiritual practices of every client. We work with humility, ask rather than assume, and never claim or appropriate knowledge that is not ours to share.

Integrity of the Kanika lineage

The Kanika name, symbol, protocols, oracle deck, training materials and teachings are the intellectual property of Kanika. Practitioners credit Kanika when they speak of or draw from this work, use the Kanika name only as permitted by their agreement, and do not teach Kanika protocols or train others without written authorisation.

Online conduct

Practitioners carry these standards into social media, community spaces and every public channel. That means no sharing of client images, messages or stories without written consent, and no disparaging of clients, colleagues or other modalities.

Ongoing development

Practitioners commit to their own continued healing and professional growth, including the professional development modules and case study support within the Kanika membership. We recommend every practitioner holds professional indemnity and public liability insurance appropriate to their practice and country.

When standards are not met

Any concern about conduct can be raised through our Complaints Handling Policy. Depending on what we find, outcomes may include further training or supervision, suspension, removal from the Kanika directory, or ending the membership or training agreement. Where conduct may be unlawful, we may refer the matter to the appropriate authority.
